This year’s Fox Valley Technical College Community Open House on October 3 welcomed a record turnout. The event, which is also held at our regional centers and at the Oshkosh Riverside campus, offers something for everyone. You can explore career paths, learn about paying for college, talk to instructors and current students, check out amazing technologies, and apply for college without paying an admission fee.
It makes my day when we can shine a spotlight on the exemplary achievements of our students—whether it be through the news, during a college event, via social media, or like we did recently with Eric Kovacevich at our Board of Trustees meeting in June.
It’s always a pleasure to connect with some of our staff, students, and prospective students and their families at the College’s annual open house. We had a great attendance and were pleased to accept new applications from more than 1,000 incoming students!
Last week we hosted a visit by Governor Walker, the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI), and a number of local legislators focusing on the topic of college affordability and student debt. While recent developments on this front by State Government were highlighted and I had the opportunity to share some of the ways we are making a college education even more affordable, the new announcement by the Governor was the creation of a position at DFI that will specialize in student debt.
