The summer season often means “camp” for many youngsters. While we don’t offer any overnight stays or campfires, Fox Valley Technical College does offer several great hands-on “camp” experiences for middle school and high school kids from area communities.
June featured our “Adventures in Print” camp that allowed our young participants to learn about the world of printing and related careers. This week we are running our 3rd annual “GirlTech” camp, where girls have the opportunity to explore and work with a wide-range of technology in areas such as electronics, robotics, IT, and forensic science. It was great to see GirlTech featured on WBAY Channel 2 — view WBAY video coverage of GirlTech Camp.
And we have a brand new camp coming up yet in August called the “Power of Manufacturing,” where participants will build and race a dragster made from power tools. That ought to bring a fair amount of excitement to our campus!
The great thing about all of these “camp” activities is that kids are directly exposed to technology and careers that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to explore. And, they have such a great time doing new things and learning along the way. We also enjoy seeing the kids share experiences and projects with their parents when they’re picked up every day from camp! It is great to see the excitement in their eyes.
We have very dedicated staff leading these efforts who I think have just as much fun as the kids do! I know we are all pleased to provide these learning opportunities each summer.
